Mentorship Program Curriculum

Introduction

The mentorship program is Africode’s flagship. It is our way of giving back to Africans in the tech industry, by realizing the potential of tech newcomers and leveraging the expertise of tech veterans.
How we support you

Why should you be an Africode Mentor?

Whether you want to share your expertise in networking, career planning, skill development, or academic growth, our mentorship program offers you the platform to guide and support aspiring talents. We are always here to assist you and help you make a meaningful impact on the next generation of tech professionals.

Inculcate Skills

It is a way for you to give back, especially to young Africans who were once in your shoes.

Stay Current

It is a learning opportunity for you to stay connected to students and keep up to date with the latest technologies being taught.

Expand Network

It is a chance to network with our community of mentors and mentees from different companies and schools.

Our Goals
Africode is dedicated to delivering substantial value to mentees by the conclusion of their mentorship program. Each mentee will define a specific end goal, which may include:

Securing a job, internship, or promotion within the tech industry.

Gaining admission to a new Bachelor's, Master's, or Ph.D. program in a tech field.

Launching a new tech company, program, or product.

Attaining a leadership position in a tech-focused group, club, or program.

Program Benefits

Become a Mentor

The goal of this program is to connect Africans working in the Tech industry with African students aspiring to work in the industry.
Program Structure
Rather than a traditional one-on-one mentorship pairing, Africode will implement mentorship pods where each mentor will guide 2-3 mentees. This structure aims to:

Enhance engagement and networking among mentees.

Broaden mentor exposure to diverse backgrounds and personalities.

Increase the number of mentees supported by a fixed mentor cohort.

Minimum Requirements

What is required of you?

At least 1 year into a doctoral or postdoctoral program for a technical field of study (e.g computer science).

At least 1 year into a postdoctoral research role (e.g AI/ML researcher).

And:

Meet with mentee pod at least once a week (virtual).

"I am aware of the frustrations associated with graduating from university and the challenge of gaining employment with little or no experience. I find it quite rewarding assisting people who aspire to work in tech. In order to help the mentees who were assigned to me see various aspects of tech and help them make better career decisions, I shared my failures, challenges, and wins (both small and great) with them."
